Error After Upgrade: Unable to Initialize: Could not load file or assembly

Question

After I upgraded WebDrive to the most recent version, I now get an error that WebDrive could not load a file or assembly. My sites do not connect. What can I do?

Answer

Please ensure sites are disconnected at time of update/upgrade, and at any time you restart your computer. This is the most common cause in this case and resolution can be found by following these steps:

Steps

  1. If not yet upgraded to WebDrive 1.1.15 or later, follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect all connected sites in WebDrive.

  2. Upgrade to 1.1.15 or later version.

  3. Connect the sites as usual

  1. If WebDrive is already in a problematic state, follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect any connected sites in WebDrive.

  2. Uninstall current version and choose to keep the existing sites (prompt during Uninstall process).

  3. Restart your computer.

  4. Reinstall 1.1.15 or later of WebDrive

  5. If desired, restart the computer. Otherwise, connect the sites and use as usual.
