Display the Username for Locked Files in Use

Question

I am seeing “locked by another user” when trying to open a file that is locked for use. How do I have WebDrive display the username that currently has the file locked?

Answer

WebDrive caches temporary Microsoft Office files by default to allow for best performance and use. Disabling this setting will allow for the username to possibly be passed successfully between Microsoft and WebDrive.

Steps if using WebDrive Next Gen

  1. Open the WebDrive interface
  2. Open the main app Settings (gear icon) at the top of the UI
  3. Scroll down and choose to “Show all settings”
  4. Go back to the main WebDrive interface
  5. Find the SharePoint or WebDAV site of interest and choose to “Edit” the site (gear icon to the right of the site)
  6. Click the “Advanced” dropdown menu and then disable the option for “Cache temporary Microsoft Office files”
  7. Reconnect the site of interest and try the operations again

Steps if using WebDrive 2019 or earlier

  1. Open the WebDrive interface
  2. Click on the SharePoint or WebDAV site of interest and then click “Site Properties” at the top
  3. Click “Basic File Settings” and then disable the option for Cache temporary MS Office files”. Click “OK”.
  4. Reconnect the site of interest and try the operations again
